#10YearChallenge - Harmless Meme or Data Driven Delinquent

So, Instagram, Facebook and Whatsapp are merging! Don’t worry, it’s behind the scenes in which these social platforms will be merging so there should be very little at the front end, for now anyway.

The decision to merge these 3 individual platforms is purely for the data. By integrating the operating systems, they can see, control and use the data from all 3 platforms - meaning your data will be freely accessible between the platforms.

Shopping Cart Abandoners - Why do We do it

It’s 2019 - if you sell anything at all you should be advertising it online and if you do, you probably track your user activities too. They come to your website, they browse, select, add it to the cart and just before the final click they change their mind. And this is when remarketing comes into the play.

Every ad is designed to make the customer buy something but remarketing ads even more so.  Remarketing is more expansive and mostly works as a display ad so you pay per impression, not a click. However, the higher price is justified by the fact that the customer is one step closer to buying, they just need a bit more persuasion.

Marketing - The Art of Storytelling

No longer can we create adverts that simply push the product, we as an audience, don’t care about it anymore. What we need now is to be told a story, a narrative in which we can become invested.

One that keeps us watching because we need to know how it will end. If you want a successful marketing strategy, you need to have a story to tell.

I don’t mean stories like Beauty and the Beast or Harry Potter (though that would definitely appeal to a certain demographic,) I mean a narrative that highlights the product and the brands' values. McDonald’s is a good example because you tend to follow someone on a journey, which ultimately ends in a McDonald’s restaurant, but the narrative is there to keep you invested.

Gillette ‘We Believe the best a man can be.’

Recently Gillette dropped their first advert of 2019, it’s messaging a response to the #MeToo and #TimesUp Movement we’ve seen rise up in the past year.

A movement where women are coming forward and standing up for themselves to ensure they’re treated fairly and ensure people are held accountable for their wrongdoings.

Tool Review: Link Building Techniques on SEMrush

Link building is an important part of any SEO strategy. Nearly a year ago SEMrush, a premium digital marketing software introduced its new link building tool.

During its BETA period, it was updated and changed a lot to improve it, so we thought now would be a good time to give you a quick overview of the tool.

I would say that the main challenge of link building is to keep track of all the websites you are getting in touch with and prioritise between similar options, especially if the link is paid.

SEMrush’s tool is very well adapted to help you with these tasks. You can monitor your links in three main tabs - Prospects (contains all the suggested links.) In progress (move links here when you decided you want them,) and Monitor (links that have already been built.)

    Let's Talk About Typography

Back in the day, to create typography you would have had to carry around a heavy box full of metal type for a single font, individual letters and punctuation all to create one document. Then you would have to manually put the blocks in order before you could start thinking about printing.

Thankfully the progress of technology has made the process of using type a lot easier. Gone are the large boxes of clunking metal to be replaced with a laptop and an endless supply of fonts available at our fingertips. Though typography is no longer as physically exhausting as it once was, the wide variety of fonts now available to us can make choosing the right font for the job just as difficult as back in the day, even if there were a lot fewer fonts to choose from.

2019 is here and you might have decided that your goal for 2019 is to find a job you enjoy, something you can see yourself doing for the long term. It’s not an easy goal, in fact, it’s probably one of the hardest to achieve, but one year I decided it would be the year I’d start my career, and it worked!
