EXTRAORDINARY SUCCESS FOR THE ORDINARY BEAUTY PRODUCTS - EMBRACING THE EDUCATED CUSTOMER

Yes, this is another The Ordinary blog, but this time instead of 10 step routines, peptides and molecular technologies, we will focus on their marketing techniques.

“Huh” - you say? Then maybe you are not into skincare, so let me explain myself.

The Ordinary is a Canadian skincare brand, under the umbrella company of DECIEM. Launched in 2016 it has sent the beauty industry into a meltdown, forced major beauty brands to change their marketing techniques, established a customer base of religious followers and most of its products are just under £10.

So what is the trick and how did they do it? I thought it would be fun to break down their marketing, branding, packaging and outreach techniques and see what is the secret of The Ordinary’s success.

    SEO 101 METADATA

So you are back, young Cyber-space-walker, much to learn you still have and in this article focus on Metadata, I will.

    via GIPHY

As with everything SEO related, metadata is much simpler than the term makes it sound. Metadata is usually broken down into Meta-title and Meta-description, both are very important for your SEO campaigns. (There are other tags too, but we will not be discussing the technical side in this article, that will come later.)

WHAT DO BUYERS WANT - SALES AND COLD CALLING FOR B2B

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a sales professional needs to be aggressive, a go-getter, hungry and driven. And it’s true, however, I believe sales strategy has to be based on what you sell and more importantly who you sell it to.

Before I joined the Proven team, I used to be Head of Acquisitions for serval big broadcasters, handling seven digit budgets and acquiring programs from around the world. Based on this experience I think I can give insights from the other side. Over the years, I have been pitched thousands of titles and worked with sales professionals whose approaches differed from almost unenthusiastic too overly pushy.

SEO 101 - Link building Techniques Part 2

Link building is an important part of SEO but doing it correctly can be difficult.

Last time we covered the terminology used within link building and now we will discuss the strategy.

    WHY BUILD LINKS?

Every time a person enters a search query, Google will evaluate it according to its algorithms and try to give the user the most useful and adequate results. No one really knows exactly how these algorithms work, but we do know a few things that have a massive impact on the result.

One of the factors is how many websites link to yours, Google views it as a way to evaluate and decide how credible your website is.

    SEO 101 Link Building

Backlinks. Where do I start? It is probably one of the most complicated parts of any SEO campaign. SEO is complex, but link building is complex on its own. So let’s break it down and take it step by step.

Initially, I’d like to start by clearing up some terminology basics as link building has its own set of terms and abbreviations. So, if you are new to this they can be damn confusing.

Creative, Engaging Content - What on Earth Does That Mean - Meet Samson

If you have ever managed a social media page you have probably googled ‘best social media strategy ideas,’ or’ social media post ideas’ - and you probably found almost 70% of those articles are not helpful.

All they tell you is to create engaging and creative content to trigger an emotional response, but what if you’re managing a social page for say an accounting firm, or something very niche and… sorry accountants, but not something all that exciting? And even if you are lucky enough to manage a fun page, what qualifies as engaging content?

So today, I am not going to give you a ready-made guide on “how to create engaging content,” instead, I thought we could break down an example of why Samson the ladle has become a new Instagram sensation and why 150k followers, including myself, enjoy following a ladle around his daily duties.

    SEO 101 - Keyword Research

IN MY LAST POST, WE TALKED ABOUT SITE AUDIT AS THE BEST STARTING POINT FOR YOUR SEO CAMPAIGN. THIS WEEK I WILL TALK ABOUT KEYWORD RESEARCH BECAUSE NO SEO CAMPAIGN CAN BE PERFORMED WITHOUT KNOWING WHICH KEYWORD YOU ARE GOING TO OPTIMIZE FOR.

But first things first, what is keyword research? Keyword research is a way to identify the best keywords for your SEO or PPC campaign and the way you perform research differs depending on if you are going for paid or organic search. This time I’ll be focusing on organic search and later I’ll give you some tips on PPC too.

Growing Up with Early Adopters - Consumer Groups That Matter

LET’S TAKE A LOOK AT HOW PEOPLE ADOPT INNOVATIONS - SOMETHING KNOWN AS DIFFUSION OF INNOVATION CURVE.

So my Dad was a computer geek in the time and place where this concept didn’t exist (the Republic of Georgia in 1980s.) Back then he was getting his PhD in Psychology and Sociology and in his free time building PCs from scratch in a little makeshift man cave in our house. He would bring home boxes and boxes of parts and then make a PC, using a small Russian made TV as a monitor. Needless to say, my Mum didn’t like the building part, but she was fascinated by the machine once it was up and running (Early Majority).
